On September 13th to 16th 2024 we participated in the e-Cannonball 2024, one of the biggest events in electric mobility in Europe. The event took place in Dresden, Germany, a city with a great heritage surrounded by the Ore Mountains region, which offers beautiful scenery and nice driving roads.
Together with my younger son Colin I had a fantastic time, immersing ourselves in the electric car community and celebrating sustainable travel in a fun way.
The event consisted of three elements: A parc fermé in a parking lot on Saturday morning which offered a great overview of the whole spectrum of electric cars, from the obvious Teslas and the locally produced Volkswagen ID’s to new brands like Xpeng or Hongki. In the afternoon then, we got the unique opportunity to move the static display to the main square in Dresden, the busy Altmarkt, where many interactions with the local community happened.
On Sunday then, the actual rally took place, where unfortunately our car hit a pothole in an early stage, which damaged a battery sensor inside the pack of our converted Renault Twingo. We still managed to drive to the Moritzburg Castle (where we had to find Cinderella’s show) and then on to the midway-point in the Arena E near Zwickau, but then decided to retire the car there for safety reasons as charging would have been a problem. Despite the problems and the not always perfect weather conditions we had a fantastic time and we would like to thank the whole Team of the e-Cannonball for having us and for setting up such a great celebration of electric mobility!
Here’s a wrap-up of my first impressions of the event:
